Within the PAGSI-program a major effort is carried on in public R&D and co-ordination is done through the Ministry of Research and the State Office for the Industry. In telemedicine and Healthcare technologies the effort is monitored by the Incentive Concerted Action (Action Concertée Incitative, ACI) and the National Network for Research and Innovation in Health-technologies (Réseau National de recherche et d'innovation Technologies pour la Santé, RNTS). The ACI aims not only to support existing research-teams, but also to encourage other scientists to devote themselves to telemedicine and new medical technologies. The RNTS and ACI call for public as well as private laboratories (SME / SMI, associations, etc), or by clinical departments, regardless of the institution, to submit projects for financial support. For the year 2002 these proposals are asked to be centred on telemedicine and care-networks (monitoring, tele-surveillance, etc), aid at home (logistics and planification, mobile technologies for transmission and visualisation, security, etc), info-centres and support for medical decisions, simulation and modelisation, medical images, new therapeutical technologies (like computer supported surgery), functional replacement systems (handicaps, artificial organs, hemodialysis, etc), biomaterials, and hygiene.
